Role Overviews

Hollstadt hires and places consultants in a wide variety of roles within the project lifecycle. Our clients trust our expertise to find top talent, and our consultants love the value and options we bring them.  The diversity of opportunities within IT and business teams across so many industries is hard to find at any other firm. Below are some examples of the roles we typically fill.

Program/Project Management

Our roles range from the traditional PM role managing one large effort, or several small efforts, to the complicated role of managing an entire program consisting of multiple work streams and multiple Project Managers. We see Program/Project Manager roles on both the IT and business side of our clients.

Business & Systems Analysts

Many of our clients look for a Business Analyst with a specific specialty in addition to core BA skills. Typically we can put them into two segments – IT BAs and Business BAs, both of them are in charge of gathering requirements and defining what needs to be done.

Project Coordination

This role is integral to the success of a project and is traditionally the first stepping stone into the project management profession. A Project Coordinator is responsible for many of the administrative tasks on a project, from taking meeting minutes to tracking project budgets and more.

Organizational Change Management

This role focuses 100% on helping manage change for a project or team.  Change Managers utilize a proactive, flexible, and practical approach, in some cases using a structured methodology like Prosci or Kubler-Ross,  to manage the people, process, and technology changes occurring within the client while achieving a project’s desired outcomes.

Specialized Roles

Beyond core project roles, our clients look to our expertise to fill many roles within the project lifecycle.  Many of these are specialized or technical roles, and the demand changes frequently.

Agile Consulting

As a result of our clients being at different phases in their adoption of Agile, our Agile roles run the gamut in terms of experience levels. They include Scrum Masters (both certified and not), Agile Coaches, Release Train Engineers, and Product Owners.

Architects

There is a lot of variety in the types of Architect roles we see. Types include: Enterprise, Solution, Business, Application, Network, and Data Architects. Each role is a bit different, but all of them require someone that can create the vision of the solution and the path to create it.

Quality Assurance

Our roles within the Quality Assurance space range from Lead roles to Analysts and Engineers.  Leads are involved in the planning and implementation of the testing strategy for the entire project, and Analysts and Engineers are responsible for assessing the quality of specifications and executing technical designs for testing of the applications.

IT Security, Compliance, and Privacy

We see a wide range of roles within the IT Security, Compliance, and Privacy. These can range from high level program consultative positions to specific subject matter expertise roles related to access control, cybersecurity, telecommunications and network security, governance and risk management, business continuity/disaster recovery, software development security, internal or third party security risk assessments, and regulatory compliance.

Management Consulting

Management consultants typically provide a specific subject-matter expertise to solve a challenge for our clients.  These can be short or long-term projects, depending on the expertise needed.

Robotic Process Automation

We help our clients with full automation operating models or when augmenting components of their center of excellence. We see a variety of roles ranging across Business Process Consultants, RPA Developers, Solution Architects, Portfolio Managers, and Implementation Managers to help organizations start or scale programs leveraging robotic process automation.

Process Re-Engineering

As our clients look to re-invent their processes end-to-end, we often see roles seeking individuals with experience across many modalities. Some include Lean, Six Sigma, and Human Centered Design with an understanding of technology to effectively create a future state process that maximizes efficiency while using technology as a vehicle to transform.

Emerging Technology

We help our clients with boutique consulting needs around a broad spectrum of emerging technology platforms and solutions. Our solutions include expertise around machine learning, natural language processing, chat bots, and others as they emerge in the market. Roles here can range from front & back-end engineers & developers, robotics engineers, Python developers and more.

FAQ’s

What is your hiring process like?
Our process is very unique! We have been in business for 30 years and are relationship-based. We want to get to know you through an virtual meeting. What are your strengths? What are your weaknesses? Where do you thrive? The more we know about you, the easier it will be for us to find you that perfect engagement.
What resources are available to me when I am on engagement with you?
Hollstadt has a variety of resources available to you when you are on an engagement. Besides regular check-ins, we connect with experienced Consultant Coaches who help you get up to speed quicker and address any work-related issues at the client site. We also offer a wide variety of training through webinars, workshops, and e-learning.
Would I be an employee of Hollstadt? How do I get paid? Do you offer benefits?

Most of our consultants are employees of Hollstadt with full-time benefits. We also have consultants who are Consultant Partners and operate their own corporation. All consultants get paid twice per month, and you also get paid for every hour you work!

How long do consulting engagements last? What happens when I am done?
Our consulting engagements average 11 months. When your project starts to wrap up, our Sales and Recruiting Teams collaborate to begin remarketing you 8 weeks before your end date. Our main goal is to eliminate gaps between engagements. It’s easy to keep our consultants busy when we work with over 40 clients in the Twin Cities!
Is consulting right for me?

There are many factors that a person needs to consider when they are making the jump into consulting. Today, EVERY job is temporary.

Which means, your current employer is your client – and they could let you go at any time. So, when we decide to take control and determine our expertise and how we could use it towards becoming a consultant, we also start to recognize how to manage our careers like a business. And that is one of the most valuable things you can do to stay employable today. Does that mean you should quit your day job and become a consultant immediately? Absolutely not. But you should know the pro’s and con’s about consulting so that you are ready if and when the time comes to make the transition.

Consultants must be self-directed. While you are working for your clients, ultimately they’re counting on you to know what you’re doing and how to do it; you are the expert. You must have the fortitude to be completely autonomous and work without direction or supervision. At the same time, you must be prepared to take feedback and make revisions to please your clients, and negotiate that process diplomatically. It’s essential to possess a whatever-it-takes kind of attitude and be willing to follow through and do whatever necessary to provide value to your clients, while still maintaining good professional boundaries and keeping your cool.

Establishing yourself as a consultant requires not only talent, but a drive that motivates you to accept nothing less than the best for yourself and your career.
